Resorts World NYC expanded its casino floor space on July 21, adding over 1,400 slot machines to its ETG and live dealer offerings

As a frequent visitor of the industry’s most prominent markets, Global Gaming Insider has bore witness to the levels of competition which can grow between gaming operators looking to expand one’s respective consumer base. Throughout gaming’s history, competition has helped operators – and suppliers – continue to innovate upon themselves in order to maintain precedence over a wandering customer eye.

On July 23, Global Gaming Insider had the chance to be on-scene for the industry’s latest representation of gaming expansion, as Foxwoods Resort Casino debuted its new Innovation Zone – featuring the first non-Las Vegas debut of Interblock’s interactive portfolio. Coincidentally, the new launch comes just days after Resorts World New York City (NYC) unveiled its latest growth, having added over 1,400 slot machines to its current retail offering.

With New York’s commercial competition only set to grow fiercer in the next few years, Foxwoods Resort Casino’s new launch could showcase how the Tribal property plans to stay ahead in the Northeast market.

New gaming zone ‘epitomizes’ Foxwoods Resort Casino’s ‘core focus’

As part of the Innovation Zone’s launch, Foxwoods Resort Casino had little problem establishing its first-to-market strategy when factoring in fellow competition across the region. The Tribal property stated “we’re first, and it’s not even close,” as well as highlighted its introduction of next-generation games “before anyone else in the northeast.”

“Today is just a start,” Foxwoods Resort Casino cautioned, “We are adding even more games of this caliber throughout the coming months.”

The Innovation Zone features Interblock titles such as Destroyer: Naval Strike, Showtime Frenzy, Cosmic Crash and Battle for Earth, as well as high-limit slots from Aristocrat Gaming, International Game Technology (IGT) and Light & Wonder.

Fellow guests of the event were provided gameplay vouchers to test out the Innovation Zone’s portfolio, while leadership such as Foxwoods Resort Casino SVP of Gaming Operations Bryan Hayes and Interblock SVP of Sales Peter Herem were on hand to celebrate the launch.

“The launch of the new innovation zone really epitomizes what we’re trying to do here at Foxwoods, what our core focus here at Foxwoods is. We’re always trying to stay on top of every single trend that’s coming through in the gaming industry,” Hayes said.

“Interblock has been a fantastic partner for almost the last 15 years and we’ll continue to grow with them. They’re another company that’s always been at the forefront of what’s going on in the gaming industry.”

There was no shortage of first-hand opportunity to experience the Innovation Zone’s launch on July 23, perhaps a strategic move on the part of Foxwoods Resort Casino to remind New York of its continued growth. With an origin that spans four decades, Foxwoods Resort Casino is no stranger to local competition – see Atlantic City – and appears well-prepared to take on the challenges which could stem from a broadened gaming footprint in New York.

How does the Innovation Zone stack up to new expansion in the Empire State?

Following approval for Bally’s Corporation, Hard Rock International and Resorts World to construct new commercial casinos in New York, the latter wasted little time in showcasing an early glimpse of what was to come. In April, the operator unveiled New York’s first casino to offer live table games, featuring nearly 200 stations across its gaming floor.

In a similar fashion to Foxwoods Resort Casino, the Innovation Zone could mark a new path forward for Interblock, one where a competition-focused mindset brings out the best each entity has to offer

As part of the July 21 launch, Resorts World NYC expanded its casino floor space to the newly renovated first floor, and now features over 4,000 slot machines property-wide. Alongside an electronic and live table game offering, it’s no wonder Foxwoods Resorts Casino continues to take note of New York’s commercial potential.

“The east coast market is extremely competitive. There are always new competitors coming into the market. I think just yesterday New York opened up more slot machines and we’re always focused on trying to be the best in the northeast,” Hayes said.

“This is something we can do. We’re a large property, we have a lot of space. These are the types of things we can do here at Foxwoods to really offer the best for our guests and bring in all the newest things that we find in the gaming industry.”

Plenty can still be done to ensure New York residents still make the trip to Connecticut to visit and play at Foxwoods Resort Casino, especially with the type of entertainment constantly available in the Empire State.

Given the Tribal property confirmed additional launches are expected in the near future, the battle between New York and Connecticut – alongside New Jersey and Pennsylvania – should remain as an attention-grabbing headline in gaming for many years ahead.

Interblock expands Tribal relationships, forges ahead with new CEO

Not to be overlooked, Interblock’s role in the interactive launch at Foxwoods Resort Casino may represent the supplier’s future strategic direction under new CEO Kay Oswald, who was officially introduced on July 21. Stating “this is a new Interblock” when discussing the appointment, Oswald also shared how the supplier will work toward “strengthening our relationship with our customers and partners in every market we serve."

Perhaps the Innovation Zone at Foxwoods Resort Casino is the first step in ensuring Oswald’s goal comes to fruition, as forming a deeper relationship with prominent Tribal operators could help Interblock expand its presence even further across the US. When speaking with Global Gaming Insider, Herem claimed the interactive portfolio “continues to build on our relationship in Tribal gaming and what we can do when bringing new players and new innovation to these casino floors.”

Interblock is by no means the only supplier undergoing recent leadership transitions as well, showcased by the personnel changeovers witnessed from the likes of Aristocrat, Ainsworth and IGT all within the past 12 months. The way to stay ahead of change, however, is to not let it stop these gaming innovators from adapting to meet the ever-changing demand of casino consumers.

In a similar fashion to Foxwoods Resort Casino, the Innovation Zone could mark a new path forward for Interblock, one where a competition-focused mindset brings out the best each entity has to offer. Especially with the 2026 Global Gaming Expo (G2E) fast approaching, cementing relationships such as its partnership with the Connecticut property will be key in helping Interblock maintain its industry standing during Oswald’s tenure.

How will the Innovation Zone push the northeast market forward? Is a response from New York and potentially even New Jersey now to be expected? Many questions surrounding northeast gaming competition will remain unanswered until New York’s commercial market fully comes to fruition, but the early days have only proven what type of innovation will stem from a greater gambling presence across the region.
