Lotería de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires took part in a new raid targeting an illegal gambling site in the San Telmo neighborhood.
The operation was carried out jointly with the Policía de la Ciudad, the Agencia Gubernamental de Control (AGC) and the Cuerpo de Investigaciones Judiciales (CIJ) of the Ministerio Público Fiscal, as authorities stepped up efforts to combat clandestine betting.
The operation targeted a clandestine gambling point operating under the name "Ciber Club VIP Vulkano 24," and the owner of the establishment was arrested.
The AGC ordered the administrative closure of the premises for lacking the required authorization, a measure later followed by a judicial closure for violating Article 301 bis of the Penal Code.
Authorities seized 25 gaming machines connected to an internal network through software that simulated online slot machines, along with a 10-camera Wi-Fi-connected security system.
During the procedure, agents identified 17 people at the site, including a minor. Computers, cell phones and cash were seized as evidence, and the individuals identified remain subject to the ongoing judicial case.
Jesús Acevedo, President of Lotería de la Ciudad, said: "In coordination with the Public Prosecutor's Office, we are working on a comprehensive plan to combat illegal betting, both physical and virtual.
"This work aims to strengthen regulation, eradicate informal circuits and promote transparent, safe and responsible gambling through official domains."
The San Telmo operation follows a similar raid in April, when a complaint filed by Lotería de la Ciudad led investigators from the Fiscalía Especializada en Juegos de Azar (FEJA) to a clandestine casino in the Villa Riachuelo neighborhood.
A judge ordered the raid at the request of prosecutor Juan Rozas, and authorities seized betting flyers, a poker table, playing cards and gaming machines.
Only online gambling platforms with the ".bet.ar" domain are authorized to operate legally in the city of Buenos Aires, according to Lotería de la Ciudad
