The Rosario city council unanimously approved the measure, amending the city's advertising code to prohibit gambling promotion in public spaces
The ban covers online betting platforms, sports betting and remote gambling services, as well as physical casinos and bingo halls

The Rosario Municipal Council has unanimously approved an ordinance banning the advertisement, promotion and sponsorship of gambling and betting.

The measure amends the city's advertising code and prohibits gambling promotion on public transport, streets, municipal screens and projections, urban furniture and private spaces visible to the public.

It also covers digital platforms, websites and apps offering online betting, sports betting and remote gambling.

The restriction targets direct and indirect advertising, promotion and sponsorship linked to casinos, bingo halls and other gambling venues.

Councilman Federico Lifschitz, who authored the initiative, said: "It's absurd for the state to spend millions of pesos on prevention and awareness campaigns about gambling addiction while at the same time allowing the streets to be papered with betting promotions."

Under the ordinance, penalties for noncompliance apply to the advertising company, the advertiser, the owner of the establishment, vehicle or structure where the ad is displayed and anyone who facilitates its installation or distribution.

The measure is the latest initiative Lifschitz has driven around youth mental health in Rosario.

Rosario's move comes as other Argentinian jurisdictions have also tightened restrictions on gambling advertising. In Salta, the provincial Chamber of Deputies unanimously approved a bill banning advertising, promotion and display of casinos, betting shops and online betting platforms on provincial government properties and vehicles.

At the municipal level, Salta has also stepped up enforcement. In July, the City Government ordered public transport operator SAETA to remove gambling advertising from its buses under existing municipal rules prohibiting promotion of gambling and betting, including sports and online betting.

Rosario is Argentina's third-largest city, with more than 1 million residents, and one of the country's main economic and agricultural hubs
