State gambling receipts reached €2.82bn for Q2 2026, up 1.08% year-on-year
The quarterly total fell 4.85% from Q1, while first-half receipts rose 1.24%
Gaming machines generated €1.17bn in state receipts for the quarter

Italy collected €2.82bn ($3.17bn) in gambling tax receipts for Q2 2026, a 1.08% year-on-year increase, according to the Customs and Monopolies Agency's (ADM) quarterly statistical bulletin. The figure was 4.85% below Q1.

ADM recorded €5.79bn in state receipts for the first half of 2026, up 1.24%. The annual increase therefore held despite weaker collections in the second quarter than in the first.

Players staked €41.92bn during Q2, down 7.77% quarter-on-quarter, and received €36.44bn in winnings, down 8.28%. ADM put player spending at €5.48bn, a 4.16% sequential decline. These measures describe different parts of gambling activity and should not be read as equivalent to the tax total.

Gaming machines accounted for €1.17bn in state receipts in ADM's category breakdown, down 5.69% from Q1. Betting contributed €208.85m, a 7.05% sequential decline, while numeric games and lotteries brought in €899.23m, down 2.46%.

ADM listed €279.76m for other games, a fall of 4.89%. The category amounts are reported separately from the overall state-receipts figure in the bulletin.

The other-games category accounted for €21.59bn in stakes, more than half of the national total, despite generating a smaller amount of state receipts than machines or lotteries.

ADM includes bingo, remote skill games and card games in this grouping. The contrast reflects differences between money wagered, player spending and tax collected across products.

Lottery and numeric-game stakes were €5.76bn for Q2, with player spending of €1.70bn. Gaming-machine stakes stood at €7.47bn, a 5.10% decline on Q1. The separate category series also show lower receipts for each game group in the quarter.

The latest total sits below the €3.01bn collected for Q4 2025. ADM's quarterly series shows receipts at €2.74bn for Q3 2025, followed by €3.01bn for Q4 and €2.97bn for Q1 2026. Collections have eased for two consecutive quarters since that year-end high, even as the Q2 annual comparison remained positive.

ADM's 2025 annual results put state gambling receipts at €11.47bn, down 0.74% from 2024. The modest annual gain in the new half-year release follows that full-year decline.
