Introducing SlotBets, Betby's new sports casino product

Betby is introducing SlotBet Games, a new iGaming category designed to combine live sports betting with familiar slot mechanics. Sportsbook and casino may be the two dominant pillars of many iGaming platforms, but moving players naturally between them has always remained a challenge.

Betby believes part of the problem lies in the fundamental difference between the two experiences. Sports betting can require an understanding of odds, markets, handicaps and terminology, while casino products are typically built around faster cycles, simple mechanics and immediate outcomes. That is why SlotBet Games have been created to sit between these two worlds.

The new category takes real-time sports action and turns it into short, slot-inspired betting experiences. At its core, the idea is simple: slotify sports betting by bringing the pace, simplicity and familiar mechanics of slots into live sports. Betby calls this new way of playing slotbetting, and Betby SlotBets is the first product built around it.

Commenting on the thinking behind SlotBets, Kirill Nekrasov, Head of Innovation and R&D at Betby, said: “The starting point was the gap between sportsbook and casino. They sit side by side on many platforms, but they often serve very different audiences, and moving players between them is still difficult. We wanted to create something that could bring casino players into sports without asking them to suddenly become sportsbook experts. But for that, the experience had to feel immediate, intuitive and familiar from the first interaction.”

How does Betby SlotBets work?

At the centre of Betby SlotBets is a simple idea: take what is happening during a live sports match and turn it into a fast casino-style game. Players engage in 15-second rounds tied directly to the sporting action and, instead of navigating traditional betting markets, they interact with a slot-style interface in which events from the match determine reel outcomes. Matching results create winning combinations, while multipliers add the potential for larger payouts within a short period of time. Even a period in which no action takes place can form part of the result, meaning a player can still win during quiet moments of play.

That detail is important, according to Nekrasov, because it separates the product from more conventional short-form sports betting. “People will naturally compare this with microbetting. But SlotBets turns the whole sequence into gameplay. The reels are driven by the live match, combinations matter, and even ‘nothing happens’ can become part of a winning result. That is much closer to how a casino player thinks.”

The mechanics are adapted to the sport being played, allowing the experience to remain connected to the underlying event rather than simply placing a slot interface on top of it. SlotBasketball is the first real-sports application of the concept, with basketball’s fast tempo and constant flow of events making it a natural starting point.

Nekrasov further explained that the choice also revealed an important part of the SlotBets philosophy: “Basketball is constantly producing events, but what became especially interesting for us were the pauses. In SlotBasketball, even when the game clock stops, the action doesn’t. A pause actually triggers an additional multiplier that keeps building until play resumes.

“That really captures what makes SlotBets different. In traditional sports betting, attention tends to centre on points, goals or the final result. With SlotBets, every event can have value: a missed two-pointer, a missed three-pointer, a foul, a stoppage or even a quiet interval. It turns the entire match into gameplay, with a new opportunity for a significant payout every 15 seconds.”

Why create a new category?

Betby is positioning SlotBet Games in a similar way to categories such as Crash Games, which developed their own recognisable mechanics, terminology and player expectations. The ambition is to make “slotifying sports betting” a category-defining concept in its own right, rather than simply another feature inside a sportsbook.

That distinction matters because Betby sees the convergence of sportsbook and casino as a product challenge, instead of simply a matter of placing the two verticals next to each other within the same platform.

Usually, casino players entering a conventional sportsbook still face an unfamiliar experience. That is why SlotBet Games give them recognisable elements such as reels, rapid rounds, combinations and multipliers, while keeping the gameplay tied to real sports action. For existing sportsbook users, the format creates more frequent interaction throughout a match and reduces the time between bet and result.

“For us, the sport cannot just be decoration around a casino mechanic,” Nekrasov added. “The match has to power the game. If the action changes, the SlotBet changes with it. That connection is what makes the product genuinely sports-led, even though the player experience feels much closer to casino.”

Nekrasov also pointed to a more practical benefit for operators: “SlotBets can also rethink the role of the traditional match tracker. Historically, that space has occupied some of the most valuable real estate on a sportsbook event page without directly generating revenue. Because SlotBets can be integrated into that same area, operators can turn the match tracker from a passive information tool into an interactive, monetised part of the experience.”
