A Sudbury businessman is proposing a privately financed casino resort that could bring a major new gambling and entertainment destination to Northern Ontario by 2030-31.

The Sudbury Star has reported that Daniel Abdel-Nour is behind the proposed Country Pine Casino & Resort, planned for the Silver Hills area near Kingsway in Greater Sudbury.

In an email to the publication, Abdel-Nour stated: “For clarity, this project is very real and has been in development for many years. First envisioned in 2005, it reflects a long-term vision to establish Sudbury as a hub for entertainment, sports and events in Northern Ontario.''

Abdel-Nour further elaborated that the vision is to create a flexible and multi-use venue. This includes an 18-storey luxury hotel, as well as a diverse collection of fine-dining, casual-dining and specialty restaurants and lounges.

Furthermore, he is planning a state-of-the-art concert hall and theatre with approximately 8,000 seats, as well as conference facilities and event spaces.

Finally, the project includes a high-end casino with approximately 50-100 tables and 2,000 slots. It is currently at the concept design stage, and the plan is to open in 2030-2031, pending approvals.

Regarding the resort's location, Abdel-Nour commented: "The Silver Hills area is centrally positioned within Greater Sudbury while maintaining convenient access to major transportation routes.

‘’The location also offers an opportunity to create a destination that complements existing attractions and supports future economic growth, tourism and private-sector investment in the region.’’

If it moves forward as planned, Country Pine Casino & Resort could mark a significant addition to Sudbury’s entertainment and hospitality scene in the years ahead.
