South Dakota gaming revenue climbs 4.7% to $16.7m for July

The South Dakota Commission on Gaming has reported the state’s total gaming revenue for July 2026, as slot machines, table games and retail sports betting combined to generate $16.7m, representing an increase of 4.7%. 

Gamblers in South Dakota wagered a total of $173.3m during the monthly period, equating to growth of 4.1% year-over-year. Retail sports wagering’s handle fell 13.4%, however, to $458,839. 

The vertical still managed to increase revenue from July 2025, though, totaling $123,394 and rising 92.9%. Wagers on baseball accounted for the most operator win during July after producing $68,914. 

Slot machines generated just over $15.1m of South Dakota’s total July gaming revenue, having increased 4.9%, while the state’s table games were responsible for $1.4m of revenue and decreased 0.9%. 

Total slot machine handle in South Dakota increased 4.2% to $163.9m, mirrored by table games after the vertical witnessed handle growth of 2.3% year-over-year to $8.9m for July. 

South Dakota operators submitted $1.4m in tax payments to the regulator, allocated to the Commission Fund, local tourism and Lawrence County. 

For year-to-date results, South Dakota gaming handle has increased 8.6% to $1bn, with slot machines accounting for the vast majority of the total after rising 8.8% to $937.4m. 

In North Dakota, Scientific Games completed a full technology conversion for the state lottery in October 2025, implementing its latest central gaming system and iLottery solution to modernize both retail and digital lottery operations.

Retailers benefitted from PlayCentral Flex self-service terminals and the Gem Suite retail management system, with performance analytics provided by Scientific Games' iNFUSE business intelligence platform.
