South African casino operator Sun International has reported its latest financial figures for the first half of 2026, revealing an overall group income of ZAR 6.6bn ($410m).
Indeed, the company reported a strong financial position overall, with the above-mentioned income figure representing a 7.4% upswing in comparison to the first half of 2025. Elsewhere, adjusted EBITDA also rose 2% year-on-year to ZAR 1.6bn, despite the operator currently moving through a period of investment which saw Capex rise from ZAR 277m in H1 2025 to ZAR 492m during the first half of this year.
Overall, Sun International's income was partially driven by a strong online performance over the year's first half, with Sunbet income rising 35.5% in comparison to results from the prior year, ahead of market growth indicators. On the land-based side, the operator also reported notable casino market share growth of 46.7% year-on-year.
Adjusted EBITDA margin did, however, decline by 1.3% compared to results from H1 2025, settling at 24.1%, a reflection of Sun International's recent investment into customer acquisition and technology – alongside inflated cost pressures – according to the company. Group debt also increased by ZAR 300,000 in comparison to results from the year ending 31 December 2025.
Exploring the outlook for the rest of the year, Sun International outlined that its "priority for the remainder of the year is to continue to drive income growth and market share gains, and to ensure that the progress achieved across its value creation plan translates into measurable earnings growth, margin improvement and sustainable returns.
"The fact that the group is growing adjusted EBITDA while simultaneously undertaking one of the largest investment programmes in recent years demonstrates the durability of the underlying business model. Initiatives to improve operational efficiency and margins are underway, and Sun International expects to start seeing the benefits thereof from 2027."
This latest development also comes alongside the simultaneous announcement that Sunbet has brokered a new partnership with Yggdrasil today, with the supplier's games set to be integrated onto the operator's platform in the South African market. Elsewhere, the operator recently formally appointed Leslie Peters as its new Chief Technology and Product Officer in Q4 2025.
Sun International was initially founded as a hotel and hospitality venture in 1967, with Sun City – the operator's flagship venue – later opening in 1979
