Petersburg, Virginia’s temporary Live Casino generated $105m in adjusted gross gaming revenue during its first eight months of operation, according to the Virginia Lottery.
The revenue comes from a temporary, tent-like structure while its owner, Maryland-based Cordish, builds a permanent $600m facility next door. Called Live Casino & Hotel Virginia, the development will feature more than 440,000 square feet of gaming, hotel and dining space alongside over 70,000 square feet dedicated to meetings, entertainment and conventions.
Furthermore, it will include a 200-room hotel, 1,600 slot machines and more than 100 table games, including a 22-table poker room. It will also feature a 3,200-seat entertainment venue and nearly 20 restaurants and bars.
Last week, the casino marked a construction milestone by holding a "topping out" ceremony for the $1.4bn project, placing the final structural beam on the nearly 500,000-square-foot entertainment complex.
Petersburg officials estimate that the casino resort will generate $2.8bn in economic benefits for the region and deliver $240m in tax revenue to the city over its first 10 years. Cordish expects the development to create 6,100 construction jobs and 1,400 permanent positions during the same period.
Petersburg voters approved a casino in a 2024 referendum, after which city leaders selected Cordish to operate the venue. The company also owns gambling facilities near Baltimore and in Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and Louisiana.
The temporary structure features approximately 900 slot machines, 30 table games, a bar, a quick-service restaurant and a staff of about 600 people.
The Cordish Companies and its Live! Casino & Hotels portfolio formed a new partnership with chef Jet Tila on April 21 to launch exclusive menu items in Pennsylvania, Louisiana and Maryland
