Brazilian police have launched an investigation into a digital influencer from Várzea Grande, Mato Grosso, and her husband over the alleged promotion of illegal online gambling platforms and suspected money laundering.
Authorities are seeking to freeze up to BR102.4m in financial assets linked to the investigation.
Operation Aposta Final (“Final Bet”) was launched on 14 October by the Mato Grosso Civil Police, which is carrying out 19 judicial orders based on an investigation led by the state’s organised crime units.
The measures were authorised by the 4.0 Justice Centre of the Court of Guarantees in Cuiabá.
Authorities have also ordered the suspension of the economic and financial activities of two companies, the disclosure of telecommunications data, the removal of social media profiles and the blocking of a website used to promote betting.
The investigation began in August 2026 after a complaint alleged that a criminal organisation was involved in promoting online gambling platforms and potentially laundering money.
Police subsequently identified social media posts by the influencer containing links directing followers to a platform offering illegal games.
According to investigators, payments made through Pix on the linked website were directed to two companies that did not appear on the Finance Ministry’s official list of authorised fixed-odds betting operators. Police said one of the companies recorded more than BR102.4m in credits and debits between 14 May and 12 July 2026.
Investigators flagged the sequence of incoming and outgoing transfers, including transactions associated with online games and betting, as potentially suspicious. They suspect the companies may have served as channels for receiving funds generated through the gambling activity.
The court also prohibited the influencer from creating, accessing or using social media accounts and searches cover the couple’s residence and businesses linked to them, including a beauty salon and a butcher’s shop
