American basketball player Stanley Scott has been provisionally suspended amid a FIBA disciplinary investigation reportedly linked to sports betting, prompting his departure from Chilean club ABA Ancud.
The Chilean National Basketball League (LNB) confirmed on 20 October that it had implemented the suspension after receiving official notification from the Chilean Basketball Federation (FEBACHILE) regarding a decision by FIBA.
The suspension prevents Scott from participating in competitions organized by the LNB for as long as the measure remains in force.
ABA Ancud said it was formally notified of the decision on 19 October. The club stated that the procedure concerned matters unrelated to the team or the current season’s competition and confirmed that Scott would no longer be part of its roster.
The club is arranging a replacement, who it said would be officially announced and presented during the day.
In its statement, the LNB clarified that the FIBA proceeding is separate from a complaint the league had submitted concerning a Liga UNO match. According to the league, that complaint led to communication through FEBACHILE confirming that FIBA already had an open disciplinary case against Scott and that a provisional suspension was in effect.
The league emphasised that the two matters should not be conflated.
The LNB condemned any conduct that could compromise the integrity of sporting competitions and reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, fair play and compliance with national and international basketball regulations.
It also said it was following FIBA’s established procedures while the investigation continues, stressing the importance of due process and the rights of those involved.
The international disciplinary proceeding is ongoing and the allegations under investigation have not been publicly detailed
