Jamul Casino Resort President & GM Mary Cheeks has chosen to step down from her leadership position after eight years of service, having overseen “major” strategic and operations shifts such as the recent debut of a $270m hotel tower.
“Leading Jamul Casino Resort through this important period of growth and transformation has been an extraordinary privilege,” Cheeks said.
“I am proud of what our team has accomplished together, particularly the evolution of the property and the successful opening of our hotel. I leave this chapter with tremendous appreciation for Team Jamul who contributed to that success.”
Jamul Casino Resort is currently operated by the Jamul Indian Village Development Council, a wholly owned enterprise of the Jamul Indian Village Tribe. The Tribal property originally launched in 2016 for a construction cost of $430m.
At the time of writing, the Jamul Indian Village Development Council has yet to name a successor for the President and GM positions, either on an interim or permanent basis.
Council Chairwoman Erica Pinto spoke on Cheeks’ departure, having said, “Mary has played an important role in the growth and evolution of Jamul Casino Resort.
“We appreciate her years of leadership, commitment and contributions to the organization and wish her continued success in the next chapter of her career.”
In June, Jamul Casino Resort appointed Marcus Lucero as the property’s new VP of Casino Operations, where he began to oversee all casino operations including slots, table games, poker and player development.
Lucero’s primary focus is on driving revenue growth and enhancing guest experience, having most recently served as VP of Casino Operations at Morongo Casino Resort & Spa and in leadership positions with Soboba Casino Resort and Valley View Casino & Hotel.
