His appointment comes after serving as Interim GM since March 2025, helping Treasure Island achieve ‘one of (its) strongest years’ to date

The Prairie Island Indian Community Tribal Council has appointed Mike Heavner as GM of the Tribe’s Treasure Island Resort & Casino property, having served in the role on an interim basis since March 2025.

Heavner originally joined Treasure Island Resort & Casino as Assistant Controller of Gaming in 2000, eventually earning a promotion to Director of Finance in 2008 where he oversaw all aspects of the property’s financial operations.

“For more than two decades, Mike has been an integral part of Treasure Island’s success. His longevity, unwavering commitment to our team members and guests and the trust he has built throughout the organization reflect the qualities we value most in a leader,” Tribal Council President Grant Johnson said.

“We are confident that his vision, dedication and focus on sustaining the prosperity of the Prairie Island Indian Community will help guide Treasure Island’s continued success for many years to come.”

The Minnesota gaming establishment currently features over 1,700 slot, video poker and video keno machines, as well as 40 table games, a poker room and 500-seat high-stakes bingo hall alongside a 788-room hotel.

Heavner also spoke on becoming permanent GM of Treasure Island Resort & Casino, having said: “Treasure Island has been an important part of my life and career for the past 25 years, and I am honored to serve our team members, guests and the Prairie Island Indian Community members as (GM).

“What makes this organization special is the people. We are truly a team united by shared values, a common mission and a commitment to excellence. I look forward to building on our strong foundation, delivering a first-class guest experience, supporting our team members and continuing to make Treasure Island the top resort destination and employer in our region.”

The Treasure Island GM has helped the property achieve “one of (its) strongest years” to date, and originally began his casino industry career at Primm Valley Resort & Casino just outside of Las Vegas.

In late July, Salt River Community Gaming Enterprises (SRCGE) named Patricia Tate as the organization’s new President and CEO, marking the first-ever woman and enrolled Tribal member appointed to the titles.

SRCGE oversees the day-to-day operations of both the Casino Arizona and Talking Stick Resort properties, which are currently owned by the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community.
