The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) has highlighted the role of the regulated gaming industry in supporting tourism, healthcare and community development during the Health & Wellness Conference and Expo (HWONFEX) 2026.
Speaking on behalf of PAGCOR Chairman and CEO Alejandro H. Tengco at the event, Health Services and Wellness Department Officer-in-Charge Dr. Janice Saraza said the agency's contribution extends beyond its role as the country's gaming regulator.
She noted that licensed integrated resorts form part of a broader tourism and entertainment ecosystem by attracting visitors, creating employment, supporting local businesses and generating economic activity. She also said PAGCOR works to ensure the gaming sector contributes to tourism while maintaining safeguards for player protection.
According to the regulator, revenue generated through its operations helps fund government programs in areas including healthcare, education and social development. PAGCOR also said it has worked with integrated resort licensees to support the construction of hospitals, provide medical equipment and improve access to healthcare services in local communities.
The agency also highlighted its responsible gambling initiatives, including the recently launched National Problem Gambling Helpline. Developed in partnership with the Seagulls Flock Organization, the 24-hour service provides confidential counseling and referrals for individuals experiencing gambling-related harm.
HWONFEX 2026, held under the theme "Go Explore, Grow Communities, Glow Together," aims to promote the Philippines as a wellness tourism destination by bringing together government agencies, industry participants and wellness advocates to discuss opportunities for the sector.
The appearance follows another recent milestone for PAGCOR after the regulator received ISO 9001:2015 certification for 16 Casino Filipino sites and branches.
The certification, awarded after surveillance audits conducted in March, is valid through March 2029, subject to annual surveillance reviews. PAGCOR said the certification supports its efforts to strengthen operational processes, improve consistency and enhance accountability across its casino operations.
