Graeme Hinton has been appointed Chief Executive Officer of Racing NSW following a unanimous decision by the organisation's board, completing a leadership transition that began when he became Acting CEO in July.
Hinton will formally commence in the permanent position on 1 December, succeeding long-serving CEO Peter V’landys.
He brings more than a decade of experience at Racing NSW, having joined the organisation in 2012 before becoming Chief Operating Officer in 2016. His responsibilities have covered wagering, broadcast and digital rights, integrity, equine welfare, prizemoney, industry funding and Racing NSW's relationship with Tabcorp.
Hinton has also been involved in several major developments within NSW racing, including the launch of The Everest, expansion of the NSW Spring Carnival and the development of equine welfare programmes.
His experience also extends to gambling policy and regulation. Hinton has represented Racing NSW in discussions with state and federal governments, including during the recent Senate inquiry into gambling advertising reform.
Racing NSW said it had maintained a succession plan for several years and consulted industry stakeholders after V’landys confirmed his decision to leave the CEO position.
Hinton takes charge of an industry that Racing NSW says includes more than 50,000 participants and supports 27,600 full-time equivalent jobs. More than AU$420m (US$294.9m) was returned to participants in 2025.
The Australian Turf Club has also welcomed the appointment, highlighting Hinton's experience across wagering and the broader thoroughbred racing industry.
Hinton said his focus would be on working with clubs, participants and industry partners while addressing future challenges facing racing in the state.
V’landys departs the CEO role after 22 years, during which Racing NSW underwent significant commercial and structural changes, including the establishment of The Everest and increased investment in prizemoney and welfare.
Hinton joined Racing NSW in 2012 and has served as Chief Operating Officer since 2016
