The Grand Casino de Prilly (GCP) will officially open to the public on 1 October, after being delayed due to complex construction.
The project cost CHF 61m and involved renovating a building that was previously a sports centre. An additional CHF 8m were then spent in fitting the casino with 300 slot machines, eight gaming tables and various furnishings.
Chairman of the GCP Board, Rudolph Schiesser, stated: "We are projecting around 300,000 visitors per year and an initial annual turnover of CHF 40m, half of which will be paid into the AVS (Old-Age and Survivors' Insurance) fund."
Furthermore, the casino has agreed to pay the municipality of Prilly CHF 450,000 per year, with a maximum of CHF 1m in the event of a special request or large-scale project.
The Grand Casino de Prilly will employ 110 people and be open 365 days a year, from 10 am to 5 am. It is the first casino in the region and only the seventh to open in French-speaking Switzerland.
In June, the Swiss Federal Gaming Commission (ESBK) held a meeting with certified bodies to enhance and develop gambling accreditation processes.
The meeting represented the ongoing communication between authorities and certification bodies, necessary to ensure gambling operations remain safe and transparent.
Earlier this year, Neuchâtel Casino and Casino Davos were ordered by the Federal Supreme Court of Switzerland to pay a fine of CHF 570,850 and CHF 970,000 respectively.
