The Spanish regulator DGOJ has launched a tender for creative, design, production and implementation services for a new safer gambling campaign. The campaign will feature a message that the best way to avoid gambling-related risks is not to start gambling in the first place.
However, the regulator also aims to communicate that if a person chooses to gamble, they should do so with regulated, licensed operators who implement responsible gambling tools and safeguards, rather than unlicensed counterparts.
The campaign will also promote such safer gambling tools, including deposit limits, self-exclusion and complaint channels.
The initiative will target the general adult population but will place greater emphasis on youth, specifically men aged 18 to 25. Many regulators and researchers often consider this demographic to be the most susceptible group to gambling risks.
Furthermore, it will be advertised across TV, radio, outdoor posters, social media and other digital platforms.
In March, DGOJ unveiled the Safe Gambling Program for 2026 - 2030. Its measures target youth protection, research on emerging technologies like AI and strengthened collaboration with treatment providers
Meanwhile, official data from health authorities suggests that problem gambling rates show a continued decline.
According to the latest data from the Spanish Observatory on Drugs and Addictions (OEDA), the proportion of Spain’s adult population identified as potentially experiencing problem gambling has fallen to 1.4% in 2024.
In previous years, this figure was 2.6% in 2018, dropped to 2.2% in 2020 and then declined further to 1.7% in 2022.
Spain’s online gambling sector recently hit new heights, with Q2 2026 posting a record GGR of €539.2m ($676.3m)
