Global Gaming Awards: Station Casinos' localized Las Vegas approach earns industry’s loyalty

At the Global Gaming Awards Americas, Station Casinos managed to beat out fellow Las Vegas operators such as MGM and Caesars, who have repeatedly won in this category over the years

Over the past 50 years, Las Vegas’ gaming scene has undergone various evolutions, all while remaining the undisputable number one gambling market across North America. Operators have entered, departed and even re-entered the scene, while familiar casino properties have given way to exciting new developments.

And yet… through all the commotion… some have managed to persevere through the ever-changing industry to forge its own path in Las Vegas. One which doesn’t rely on the bright lights of the Las Vegas Strip, but rather the loyalty of local residents who don’t jump on a plane after a short period of wild entertainment.

For five decades, Station Casinos has slowly built a dominant portfolio of locals casinos and gaming establishments in Las Vegas, capped off by its most recent launch of Durango Casino & Resort in 2023. While perhaps lacking the extravagant or attention-grabbing features of a Strip casino-resort, Station Casino properties have managed to generate its own consumer base of local gamblers and sports bettors.

The dedication was best exemplified at the Global Gaming Awards Americas in Las Vegas on September 28, where Station Casinos took home the Customer Loyalty Program of the Year victory at the 2026, overcoming MGM and Caesars, who have repeatedly won this Awards over the years. Does the Award showcase a localized trend beginning to form in Las Vegas toward rewards programs, or do Strip operators still provide the best all-around experience for guests?

Local loyalty vs Strip stardom

Speaking as a Las Vegas resident, when one moves to southern Nevada – the Strip becomes less of an experience, and more a task that must be fulfilled for sports or entertainment-seeking purposes. By no means meant to be a knock on the two-mile stretch of wonder, but hoping to avoid the traffic – both foot and car – is an understandable desire for those who can return home to their own beds at night.

Unless one is venturing out for a Golden Knights game or perhaps a show hosted at a respective casino, finding your way to a Station Casinos property is much simpler than that of a Strip operator. Factoring in price increases for parking, food & beverage and entertainment offerings, the recent trend is less-so quality-driven and more financially focused.

The myRewards Boarding Pass program offers players the chance to witness the connectivity Station Casinos has built through developing numerous establishments across Las Vegas, even extending to bar and tavern locations

Where this factors into customer loyalty programs is how connected Station Casinos remains throughout Las Vegas. Pick a direction – north, south, east, west… heck even north-ish southeast (the GPS may struggle with that), and Station Casinos has a property available to those residing in the nearby area.

Customer loyalty programs for Strip operators can extend all over the world in fairness, but for Las Vegas residents, the ease of having a single rewards account linked between more than 10 casinos properties is a dream. It’s probably no secret as to why Station Casinos’ victory at the 2026 Global Gaming Awards Americas came over multiple Strip operators, including MGM Resorts International, Caesars Entertainment and the returning Hard Rock International.

While the global benefits Strip operators can offer are certainly enticing, especially to those who don’t reside in southern Nevada most of the year, Station Casinos’ connection to residents is relatively unmatched by gaming’s goliaths. What makes the my|Rewards Boarding Pass program stand out is not just the locals loyalty, but also the features which helped earn its spot in Global Gaming Awards history.

Five decades, fine legacy

Just prior to finding out it was shortlisted for the Customer Loyalty Program of the Year Award, Station Casinos celebrated its 50th anniversary with a new citywide brand campaign, which debuted at Palace Station on July 1 with a drones and fireworks show presented by the operator.

As part of the new campaign, Station Casinos also unveiled a fresh logo for the operator’s brand, created to pay tribute to the company’s origins while also introducing a more contemporary design.

“As we celebrate 50 years in Las Vegas, this new logo is a meaningful nod to where we began and the local community that has been part of our story from the start,” Station Casinos EVP of Operations Frank Fertitta IV said.

“While our brand identity is evolving, our commitment to serving locals with great value, genuine hospitality and a place to come together for another 50 years remains as strong as ever.”

Founded by Frank Fertitta Jr. in 1976 as The Casino, the operator expanded into Bingo Palace before eventually becoming Palace Station in 1984. Having become a prominent family in the Las Vegas area, the Fertitta’s slowly built Stations Casinos into the multi-property entity it currently stands as today.

While the global benefits Strip operators can offer are certainly enticing, especially to those who don’t reside in southern Nevada most of the year, Station Casinos' connection to residents is relatively unmatched by gaming's goliaths

Given its overwhelming presence in Sin City, Station Casinos also became well-known for its connection to local communities across Las Vegas, employing hundreds of thousands of Southern Nevada residents over its five-decade history. While the operator’s relationship with its staff may not factor into a loyalty program per say, it does showcase the unity Station Casinos properties have built.

The my|Rewards Boarding Pass program offers players the chance to witness the connectivity Station Casinos has built through developing numerous establishments across Las Vegas, even extending to bar and tavern locations. Whether its gaming, dining, hospitality, entertainment or sports betting, Station Casinos players have become more than familiar with the extended capabilities of the operator’s loyalty program.

With five decades in the books, all that’s left to contemplate is how Station Casinos can continue building upon its legacy as Las Vegas grows as well…

Keep it in the family

Even with the identity Station Casinos has established in Las Vegas, it’s not as if the city will slow its progression to honor such accomplishments. Within the next three years, Hard Rock and Bally’s Corporation will introduce new properties on the Las Vegas Strip, the latter of which is set to include a baseball stadium addition for the impending arrival of the Las Vegas A’s.

Replacing the former Mirage and Tropicana sites, Hard Rock and Bally’s may represent greater competition to the likes of MGM Resorts, Caesars or Wynn Resorts, but will still look to attract locals just as much as global clientele. While both hope to bring a sense of uniqueness to the Strip, avoiding similar mistakes as Resorts World and Fontainebleau will be key to each’s success.

Perhaps most noteworthy for Station Casinos – and the family which oversees the operator – is the return of cousin Tilman, whose Fertitta Entertainment business recently entered into an agreement to acquire Caesars. While Global Gaming Insider has previously analyzed the potential impact of Tilman’s return, how the family plans to operate competing businesses remains as a key storyline for the future of Las Vegas.

In any event, Station Casinos’ victory at the Global Gaming Awards Americas 2026 showcases a growing trend in Las Vegas, one where the familiar feeling of local pleasures has outweighed sway from the Strip.

Maybe Strip operators can turn the tide back in their favor over the next 12 months… but for now… Station Casinos is celebrating on the grandest stage, and bringing its most loyal customers along for the ride.
