Grosvenor Casino Thanet at Westwood Cross has increased the number of slot machines on its gaming floor with 30 new machines and 90 new games.
The change follows recent UK Government legislation allowing land-based casinos to expand their machine numbers for the first time since 2007.
Under the new rules, casinos may install up to 80 machines provided the ratio of machines to gaming tables does not exceed five to one and the gaming area is larger than 500 square metres.
For Grosvenor Casinos across the UK, this allows the addition of more than 850 slot machines at its locations, subject to local council approval.
The 2025 Gambling Act Review, announced by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport in May 2025, aims to support long-term growth in the land-based casino sector.
Since 22 July 2025, casinos have been able to add machines while adhering to these new requirements. For example, Entain launched Pragmatic Play's Big Bass slots across UK shops and GP integrated the Just Slots portfolio into its iGaming Deck.
Operators are required to contribute to a levy funding research, education and treatment into gambling effects. An independent ombudsman will handle complaints from players and restrictions on VIP schemes have been introduced to reduce risk for vulnerable individuals.
Natalie Kelly, Grosvenor Casino Thanet GM, stated: “We’re thrilled to have enhanced our gaming offer here in Kent. This investment demonstrates our continued commitment to provide cutting-edge gaming options for our players.”
The review also introduces measures intended to protect players, including detailed affordability checks for those losing significant sums within 24 hours or over 90 days
