Police and municipal authorities in the city of Paraná, in Argentina’s Entre Ríos Province, suspended an amateur futsal match involving wagering after determining the event lacked the required authorizations to be held at a public facility.
The intervention took place in the early hours of Monday at the Thompson Beach sports complex, a municipally managed venue. According to local reports, officials halted the match after identifying that the game was being played with money at stake, without authorization to conduct such activities in a public space.
The match, promoted as “La Revancha,” featured the local team Primero de Julio against Santa Fe-based club La Chispa and was scheduled to start at midday. Authorities intervened shortly after the event began, despite a significant number of spectators already present at the venue.
Organizers reportedly required each participating team to contribute ARS 500,000 ($500) as part of the event arrangement. Officials determined that the conditions under which the match was organized were incompatible with the use of a public sports facility, leading to its immediate suspension.
Local authorities did not report arrests or criminal charges following the intervention. The action was limited to stopping the event and preventing its continuation, in line with administrative enforcement measures related to the use of public spaces.
