A Chilean court has summoned Casino Enjoy of Viña del Mar following a dispute over a slot machine jackpot totaling CLP 3.8bn, which the operator declined to pay, citing a system failure.

The incident occurred on November 11, 2025, when the player, Lilian Tumani, was using a slot machine that displayed the jackpot amount on screen. According to court filings, casino staff initially acknowledged the result before later informing her that the amount had appeared due to a technical malfunction and would not be honored.

Tumani filed a complaint the same day. On November 14, she returned to the venue with a notary, who documented that the machine had been switched off. The documentation forms part of the evidence submitted to the Third Local Police Court of Viña del Mar.

Her attorney filed the claim under Chile’s Consumer Protection Law. The court has scheduled a document exhibition hearing for April 15, 2026, requiring both parties to present relevant technical and procedural records.

As part of the proceedings, the court has requested that the casino produce detailed operational documentation related to the machine in question, including surveillance footage from the gaming floor on the day of the incident, identification of the specific game software installed and maintenance and technical service records. The tribunal has also requested corporate information related to the operating entity for the relevant period.

In parallel to the judicial process, Chile’s Superintendencia de Casinos de Juego is conducting a separate administrative review of the incident, introducing an additional layer of regulatory oversight beyond the consumer protection claim.

The dispute places focus on operational protocols governing slot machine malfunctions and payout verification processes. While casinos typically include technical error clauses within machine rules, the outcome of the case may clarify how such provisions are interpreted under consumer protection standards in Chile’s regulated land-based gaming sector.

No ruling has yet been issued. The April hearing represents the first formal procedural stage in the judicial review.

Good to know

Under Chilean gaming regulations, slot machines must be certified and periodically audited by authorized testing laboratories, and any software modification or technical intervention must be reported to the Superintendencia de Casinos de Juego (SCJ)
