The Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC) is expanding its support for the Hong Kong SAR Government's Strive and Rise Programme, sponsoring a six-day educational visit to Guizhou for 100 students from the initiative's 4th cohort.
The latest study tour forms part of the Club's broader commitment to the programme, which has received cumulative donations of HK$41m from the HKJC and its Charities Trust since its launch in 2022. The initiative is designed to help secondary school students set personal goals, broaden their horizons and encourage upward social mobility through collaboration between the Government, businesses and community organisations.
The Guizhou visit follows similar exchanges to Hangzhou and Sichuan over the past two years, which the Club said received positive feedback. In addition to providing funding, the HKJC has contributed to planning the itinerary and arranged for Club mentors to accompany their mentees throughout the trip.
During the six-day programme, participants will visit several of Guizhou's major scientific, technological and cultural landmarks. These include the Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical Radio Telescope (FAST), the National Big Data (Guizhou) Comprehensive Pilot Zone Communication and Experience Center and Xijiang Qianhu Miao Village.
The HKJC has also continued expanding its mentorship efforts. More than 110 employees, scholars and fellows have volunteered as mentors across the first three cohorts of the programme, with more than 45 individuals nominated for the 4th cohort this year.
Beyond mentorship, participants have been invited to visit a range of Club facilities, including Tai Kwun, the Jockey Club Kau Sai Chau Public Golf Course, the Equine Hospital and Tuen Mun Public Riding School. The Club has also provided complimentary tickets to a number of cultural events supported through its charitable initiatives.
The youth development programme forms part of the HKJC's wider community investment strategy, which focuses on supporting young people while promoting educational and cultural opportunities across Hong Kong.
