The Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Commission (MLGCC) has officially authorized Canton Gaming's Pikesville facility to begin operating retail sports wagering for consumers, having successfully completed controlled demonstrations of such business on October 21 and 23.
Customers at the facility participated in live wagering on October 21 and 23 while Maryland Lottery and Gaming staff oversaw the operations and confirmed the Canton Gaming property "complied with all required procedures and that its systems functioned properly."
Canton Gaming and Crab Services hosted the controlled demonstrations, as Maryland currently hosts 13 retail sportsbook locations, 12 of which also offer mobile sports wagering platforms. Throughout the first quarter of fiscal year 2026, sports wagering in Maryland has contributed over $29.7m to the Blueprint for Maryland's Future Fund and General Fund.
Retail sports wagering operations, such as those set to launch at the Pikesville facility, contribute 15% of taxable proceeds to the Blueprint Fund, which supports public education programs across the state.
Online operators contribute 15% of taxable proceeds to the Blueprint Fund and an additional 5% to the Maryland General Fund.
The Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Agency approved bet365's application for an online sports wagering license during a regulatory hearing on August 28, marking the 15th US state in which the operator will be conducting business.
Sportsbooks currently operating sports betting services in Maryland include FanDuel, DraftKings and BetMGM, as the state recorded a combined handle of nearly $364.1m in July 2025. Maryland also represents the second state bet365 expanded into during August, having officially launched in Kansas on August 6.
