Argentina’s Hipódromo de La Plata, operated by Lotería de la Provincia de Buenos Aires, opened its 2026 live events season with a sold-out concert by Don Osvaldo.
The event marked the start of this year’s outdoor programming cycle at the racetrack, which in recent years has expanded its non-racing activity to include concerts, food festivals and cultural gatherings alongside its regular horse racing schedule.
According to official figures, the venue hosted more than 130,000 attendees across its 2025 event calendar. Programming included Noches Capitales, the Handicap gastronomic fair, the Morder festival, the Beer Festival, tango events and the Gran Premio Dardo Rocha, one of the principal races on Argentina’s horse racing calendar. Weekly racing operations continue in parallel with the cultural agenda.
Gonzalo Atanasof, President of Lotería de la Provincia de Buenos Aires, stated: “We are very pleased with the number of people who joined this first concert. We are continuing an initiative we launched two years ago, with the clear objective of turning the Hipódromo into a cultural and recreational reference space for the city and the region.”
Two additional concerts have already been confirmed for 2026: El Kuelgue on April 18 and Ke Personajes on May 9.
Officials also pointed to the economic activity generated by large-scale events at the venue, citing spillover effects on local commerce, hospitality services, transportation and temporary employment.
The Hipódromo’s combined role as a racing facility and live entertainment venue reflects a broader pattern across Latin America, where lottery and gaming authorities are using existing real estate infrastructure to expand event-based revenue streams beyond traditional wagering operations.
The Buenos Aires Provincial Lottery operates multiple land-based gaming and racing assets across the province, and in recent years has increased the use of those venues for non-gaming events
