Police in Santiago, Chile, dismantled an illegal gambling operation in the La Pintana district, arresting the venue’s operator and seizing dozens of gaming machines, ammunition and surveillance equipment.
Officers from the 41st Police Precinct of Carabineros carried out the raid as part of an ongoing investigation into unauthorized gambling venues operating in the municipality. During the operation, authorities detained a 41-year-old Chinese national identified by the initials J.H., who was acting as the manager of the establishment and had no prior criminal record.
Police confiscated 36 slot machines, a prize roulette wheel, a bill-counting machine, multiple mobile phones and video surveillance equipment used to monitor the premises. Authorities said the equipment indicated the venue was operating as a fully functioning clandestine gambling hall.
Investigators also seized 60 rounds of 9mm ammunition, along with cash and alcoholic beverages that were allegedly being sold illegally inside the premises.
The suspect was placed at the disposal of Chile’s Public Prosecutor’s Office and was scheduled to appear before a detention control hearing the same day.
Authorities said the operation forms part of broader enforcement actions targeting informal gambling venues in the Santiago metropolitan area. According to police, the scale of the operation — with dozens of slot machines installed — suggests a relatively large clandestine gambling floor operating outside the regulatory framework.
Chile’s legal casino market operates under the supervision of the Superintendencia de Casinos de Juego (SCJ), and gambling operations outside that system are subject to criminal penalties under national law.
