Growth in gambling harm support requests coincides with increased use of self-exclusion tools
Blocking software targets both regulated and unregulated gambling platforms

BetBlocker, a charity providing free gambling blocking software, has partnered with Slovakia’s national helpline Linka pomoci pre problémy s hraním to expand access to its services through Slovakian language support.

The collaboration forms part of BetBlocker’s localisation efforts, which aim to improve accessibility by adapting its software to local markets and working with national support organisations.

The charity said engagement in Slovakia has already increased, with hundreds of users accessing the service this year and uptake expected to rise further.

The expansion comes amid broader concerns about gambling harm in Slovakia. The country’s national self-exclusion register (RVO) exceeded 20,000 users in July 2025, while a report by the Institute of Gambling Regulation in Slovakia indicated that up to 300,000 individuals may have accessed unlicensed operators.

The report also found that 13.1% of respondents who used illegal platforms did so to bypass self-exclusion restrictions.

BetBlocker’s software enables users to block access to both licensed and unlicensed gambling websites and applications, aiming to strengthen the effectiveness of self-imposed restrictions.

BetBlocker Founder and Trustee, Duncan Garvie, said: “We are really pleased to cooperate with Linka pomoci pre problémy s hraním to expand our support to Slovakia.”

Garvie added: “National support organisations have a understanding of their community and how to effectively communicate support messaging that BetBlocker’s small team could not hope to achieve independently.”

Linka pomoci pre problémy s hraním Psychologist, Erik Kovac, said: “BetBlocker is one of the standard first-aid tools we recommend for people who call our helpline and want to limit their online gambling.”

The partnership is expected to support further growth in user adoption as awareness of gambling harm services continues to increase across the Slovakian market.

BetBlocker has continued to expand its language support in 2026, including the launch of Turkish language functionality aimed at reaching an estimated 90 million speakers worldwide. The update followed a year in which more than 300,000 users activated blocks through the service, reflecting increased demand for accessible support tools across different regions.
