The Swedish Gambling Authority has issued a reprimand to the Swedish Bingo Association following a review into compliance with information requirements in bingo halls.
The regulator assessed whether licensees are meeting their obligations to provide accessible and clear information to players. This includes ensuring that contact details and responsible gambling information are readily available within venues.
As part of the review, the authority identified deficiencies at two bingo halls operated under the association’s licence: Idrottens Bingo in Linköping and Bingoringen in Karlskoga.
Complaints had been raised regarding shortcomings in the availability of required information at both locations.
Under Swedish gambling regulations, licensees must ensure that players can easily access information related to gambling responsibility, including guidance on support services and operator contact details.
These measures are intended to support informed decision-making and mitigate risks associated with gambling.
The Swedish Gambling Authority stated that the purpose of the review was to verify whether operators are fulfilling these obligations in land-based environments, where oversight mechanisms differ from online platforms.
The reprimand indicates that the authority found the Swedish Bingo Association had not fully met the required standards in the two venues examined.
While no financial penalty has been disclosed, such actions typically serve as a formal warning and may lead to further regulatory scrutiny if issues persist.
The case highlights the ongoing focus by Swedish regulators on compliance with player protection measures across all gambling verticals. Land-based operators, including bingo halls, remain subject to the same overarching responsibility requirements as online operators, despite differences in operational environments.
Regulatory oversight in Sweden continues to emphasise transparency and accessibility of information as part of broader efforts to strengthen consumer protection within the gambling sector.
The development follows wider regulatory discussions in Sweden, including a recent response from BOS to EU proposals on anti-money laundering standards, where the trade body warned that certain metrics could lead to disproportionate penalties for operators and called for clearer definitions and proportional sanctions.
Swedish regulations require responsible gambling information to be visible and accessible within all licensed gambling venues
