Following a strike launched by workers at Horseshoe Casino Indianapolis on October 17, Caesars Entertainment has issued a response to those looking to be recognized as part of the Teamsters Local 135 Union. A vote to join the Union was originally scheduled for the same day in which the strike first began, but the ongoing US government shutdown caused the vote to be delayed indefinitely.
"Horseshoe Indianapolis is proud of the workplace environment that we have built, but we respect the rights of our team members to engage in lawful union activities. The National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) has postponed the previously scheduled union vote due to the shutdown, which was beyond our control," Caesars SVP of Corporate Communications & Production Kate Whiteley said.
"We will fully comply with that process when the shutdown ends. In the meantime, we will continue serving our guests without disruption, maintaining the high standards of hospitality they expect from us."
Horseshoe Casino Indianapolis employees began striking on October 17 after the property refused to acknowledge Teamsters Local 135 as the employees' bargaining representative. The Union offered to have a neutral third party conduct the vote as planned, but were rejected by Horseshoe Casino management.
Whiteley continued: "We have responded to the Teamsters' request to use someone other than the NLRB to conduct the election; we are confident in the environment inside the building for our Team Members and our guests; we are operating as usual and while we look forward to a resolution, we are grateful for our Team Members who are working through this disruption."
Horseshoe Casino Indianapolis employees also expressed concern over post-flood conditions following a pipe burst on the week of October 27, which is said to have restricted hot water and heat usage as well as produced black mold.
A group of employees were reportedly able to leave Horseshoe Casino Indianapolis as they are currently represented by Teamsters Local 135, while casino dealers who have not officially joined the Union are still required to be present despite the post-flood conditions.
Caesars reported its financial results for Q3 2025 on October 28, as the operator recorded a $55m net loss throughout the period, while net revenue grew just 0.1% for a total of $2.9bn
