The Comisión de Juegos del Gobierno de Puerto Rico has agreed to a new partnership with idPair to help “modernize” gaming oversight and allow residents of the country to voluntarily exclude themselves from all gambling activity.

Launching in June 2026, Puerto Rico residents will have the ability to self-exclude themselves from access to gaming operators and platforms across multiple jurisdictions and gambling types.

“Puerto Rico has built one of the most dynamic and rapidly evolving gaming markets in the region, backed by strong leadership and a vibrant culture that makes it a truly special place,” idPair CEO Jonathan Aiwazian said.

“We’re honored to support the Comisión de Juegos in expanding access to responsible gaming protections, and we look forward to simplifying self-exclusion for individuals while streamlining processes for operators, many of whom already process exclusion data via the idPair platform deployed across other jurisdictions.”

Participants are eligible to enroll in the program online, with exclusion data provided to operators through the idPair platform. Puerto Rico’s current gambling ecosystem includes offerings for casinos, sports wagering and many other regulated gaming activities.

Puerto Rico Gaming Commission Executive Director Juan Carlos Santaella Marchán also spoke on the partnership, having said, “This alliance strengthens our public policy efforts to maintain a safe, highly regulated gaming industry grounded in responsible gaming practices.

“Our goal has always been to provide accessible tools and resources for anyone seeking support with gambling-related issues. This initiative aligns with the work we have carried out since I assumed office, as well as with our ongoing Responsible Gaming educational campaign. Once again, we reaffirm our commitment to Puerto Rico.”

On May 21, Puerto Rico's Court of Appeals temporarily halted the intake of new route gaming license applications, siding with the island's Gaming Commission in an ongoing dispute over whether regulators are required to accept new operators into the recently formalized market.

The appeals court accepted the Gaming Commission's request to suspend proceedings at the lower court level, pausing a previous ruling which had ordered the regulator to receive, process and evaluate applications from a group of operators.
