Maryland Lottery and Gaming has reported the state’s total sports betting activity for May 2026, as revenue from online and retail operations totaled just over $49.6m during the monthly period, equating to a decrease of 3.9%. 

The fall in sports betting revenue for Maryland was reported in spite of a 6.1% increase year-over-year in total handle to $535.4m, resulting in a hold of 12.3% for operators currently licensed in the state.

How has the state performed since launching sports betting operations during 2022?

Mobile operations accounted for $526.2m of the state’s total handle and $49m of revenue, representing an increase of 6.5%, but also a decrease of 3% for the vertical’s May revenue. 

Retail sports betting in Maryland produced just over $9.2m of handle during the monthly period, equating to a decrease of nearly 10%. The $608,216 in taxable revenue generated by retail sports betting represents a 43.5% decrease from the prior year period. 

Maryland operators managed to contribute nearly $9.9m to the state during May 2026, as well as returned $124.7m across fiscal year 2026. Over $7m of the May contributions went toward public education programs supported by the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future Fund.

On June 5, Maryland Lottery and Gaming reported the state’s total casino revenue for May 2026, as commercial casino operators managed to generate nearly $170m, equating to a decrease of 3.7%.

Despite generating the most revenue of any commercial casino property in Maryland for May 2026, MGM National Harbor witnessed a decrease of 7.3% year-over-year for a total of $69.8m.

Ocean Downs Casino managed to report the highest revenue increase of any Maryland property, generating growth of 7.3% to $9.4m. Horseshoe Casino and Rocky Gap Casino reported May revenues of $15.6m and $5m, respectively, representing increases of 2.3% and 1.8%.
