The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) has released Php32.85m ($557,442) in assistance to communities affected by Typhoon Tino and Super Typhoon Uwan, which struck multiple regions earlier this month.
The agency said the funding was used to procure 31,500 relief packs for distribution across the hardest-hit provinces.
PAGCOR initially turned over 15,000 packs worth Php14.78m to the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) in Regions 6 and 7 following Typhoon Tino's landfall in early November.
A further 16,500 packs valued at Php18.07m are now being dispatched to areas impacted by Super Typhoon Uwan, including Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Aurora, Batangas, Bulacan and Negros Occidental.
The Senate also received packs from the second batch for its outreach efforts.
Each relief pack includes rice, canned goods, bottled water and coffee, along with non-food items such as blankets, mosquito nets and hygiene supplies.
PAGCOR said its coordinated distribution efforts involve the Navy, the Philippine National Police and regional disaster response units.
The nationwide response comes after President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. placed the Philippines under a state of national calamity, following reports of hundreds of casualties and over 2.5 million affected families within two weeks.
The relief deployment follows PAGCOR's recent financial update showing improved capacity for public-sector contributions. Earlier this month, the agency reported a 49% rise in nine-month net income to Php14.32bn and higher allocations for national programs, including health services, drug prevention initiatives and socio-civic projects.
PAGCOR's relief funding forms part of its broader mandate to support government disaster response operations, alongside long-term contributions to infrastructure, healthcare and educational programs nationwide.
PAGCOR also donated 2,000 computer tablets worth Php17.54m to Cebu City, Iloilo and Bacolod for use in public schools affected by the recent disasters
