Brazil’s National Association of Games and Lotteries (ANJL) has expressed support for the Ministry of Finance’s new betting advertising rules in the country, while urging authorities to strengthen enforcement against illegal operators.
In a statement, the association said it supports the new framework and “defends the strict compliance with the rules that should without compromising the operations of companies that operate legally and are subject to the supervision of the Secretariat of Prizes and Betting (SPA).”
However, ANJL argued that tighter restrictions on licensed operators alone will not solve the problem if illegal platforms continue operating without oversight.
“The initiatives announced need to be accompanied by strengthened supervision and action against advertising promoted by illegal platforms,” the association said.
ANJL also noted that these “operate without authorization from the Federal Government, do not pay taxes, fail to comply with advertising rules and do not adopt mechanisms to prevent money laundering, underage gambling and compulsive gambling.”
According to ANJL, the continued presence of unlicensed operators creates an uneven competitive environment by allowing illegal businesses to avoid the regulatory and financial obligations imposed on licensed companies.
The association also warned that non-compliant advertising damages the reputation of the regulated industry regardless of who is responsible for it.
“Advertising campaigns that are not in accordance with the current regulations harm the image of the sector and should be subject to the appropriate measures by the competent authorities,” the statement added.
