The Virginia Lottery has released the state’s total casino activity for August 2026, as the five commercial operators which currently report to the regulator combined to generate $97.6m of revenue, equating to growth of 15%.
During August, slot machine activity in Virginia accounted for $75.8m of the state’s total revenue and increased 15.6%, while table game revenue grew 13.1% year-over-year to nearly $21.8m.
Despite generating the highest casino revenue of any commercial property during August, Caesars Virginia reported a decrease of 3.9% to just over $33.1m, followed by Rivers Casino Portsmouth which witnessed a fall of 6.8% to $26.1m.
While some may wonder how the state increased casino revenue despite its leading operators reporting decreases from August 2025, figures were helped by the recent launches of Live! Virginia and the Interim Gaming Hall Norfolk, which generated $14.3m and $1.1m, respectively.

Hard Rock Bristol, serving as the middle child of Virginia’s casino operations for August, produced just over $22.9m of casino revenue for a rise of 2.7%.
The operators submitted $20m in taxes to the state of Virginia during August, including $6.3m to their respective host cities and allocations to the Problem Gambling Treatment and Support Fund, Family and Children’s Trust Fund and Virginia Indigenous People's Trust Fund.
On September 1, The Virginia Lottery also reported the state’s total sports wagering activity for July 2026, as online and retail operators managed to generate $55.4m of revenue, representing an increase of 21.5%.
Online sports betting accounted for the vast majority of revenue and total handle during July, having produced just over $55.1m and increased 22.3%. Mobile activity also drove $606.3m of handle for July, rising 41.9% year-over-year.
Retail sports betting drove just $286,939 of revenue for July and decreased 45.1%, even while the vertical’s $2.8m handle during the monthly period equates to a 41.9% increase as well.
