Anderson Neiff, a singer and influencer with 12m Instagram followers, promoted online betting platforms on social media on the 22nd of October, about four weeks after Brazil banned betting advertising.
National news outlets found that Betaya, the betting site Neiff promoted, was still online and accepting new registrations.
Neiff's team was asked about the promotion and Betaya was asked about its operation in Brazil, but local news outlets say they have received no response by publication.
The Provisional Measure, signed by President Lula da Silva on September 25, a month before Neiff’s promotion, prohibits the operation, offer, intermediation and advertising of fixed-odds betting in Brazil, including online games.
It set deadlines for platforms to wind down operations and ended the authorizations granted to the market. Influencer promotion of betting also faced new restrictions under the measure.
Content creators who built their audiences around betting promotion also criticized the Federal Government's decision when it was announced.
As a provisional measure, the text still needs to be reviewed by Congress. Betting companies are contesting it at the Supreme Federal Court (STF), where Justice Luiz Fux is expected to rule after the second round of the presidential election.
It isn't the first time Neiff has promoted betting sites outside the rules. In August 2025, he used Instagram stories to promote a platform that wasn't on the Finance Ministry's list of authorized operators. The posts were removed from his profile the following day.
Recently, Brazil's Federal Public Prosecutor's Office (MPF) opened an investigation into allegations that other influencers have also been promoting illegal betting platforms since the ban.
More than 13,000 betting sites have been blocked, 188 of which had authorization to operate in Brazil
