Federal collection from betting reached BR11.1bn ($2.14bn) from January to September
That is above the BR9.95bn collected across all of 2025
October's data will show the first impact of the ban

Brazil's federal collection from betting reached BR11.1bn between January and September 2026, according to the Federal Revenue Service.

The total already exceeds the BR9.95bn collected across all of 2025, with figures adjusted for inflation using the IPCA index.

According to Marcelo Gomide, the agency's coordinator of forecasting and analysis, legal allocations paid by fixed-odds betting operators totaled BR3.72bn over the period, while taxes and contributions such as income tax, PIS and Cofins came to BR3.14bn.

September was the last full month with licensed operators fully active, since Provisional Measure (MP) 1,394/2026 was issued on September 25. Its effect on collection will therefore only show in October's figures.

The month brought a moderate recovery of 3.70% after August's 20.51% drop, which was attributed partly to the post-World Cup feeling. September still came in below the roughly BR1.4bn a month recorded between April and July.

From October, collection will depend only on modalities outside the measure's scope, such as the lotteries run by state bank Caixa, without the contribution of fixed-odds betting. Some betting-related revenue will continue, according to Claudemir Malaquias, head of the Revenue Service's Center for Tax and Customs Studies.

"We have other receipts and it's not just fixed-odds betting. What was banned were the bets through the platforms and it's not the totality of the betting sector," he said.

Recently, the Revenue Service reported that Brazil collected BR9.91bn in federal taxes from gambling-classified businesses in the first eight months of 2026, with collection rising in September.

Good to know

The figure represents a real increase of 55% over the same period in 2025, when collection totaled BR7.17bn
