Gaming provider ICONIC21 has launched Face Down Double Down, a new Blackjack feature designed to bring a familiar land-based casino experience to online tables while adding an extra layer of suspense for players.
The feature is now available in selected ICONIC21 Blackjack titles, including 7-Seater Blackjack and Private Blackjack.
Face Down Double Down expands one of Blackjack’s most recognisable decisions. Following the initial deal, players are presented with two doubling options: Double Face Up, which follows the standard Double action and reveals the additional card immediately, and Double Face Down, where the additional card remains hidden until the dealer completes their hand.
In both cases, the player doubles their original wager and receives a single additional card. The difference lies in when that card is revealed. With the Face Down option, the card stays concealed until the end of the round, creating a delayed reveal that can significantly heighten anticipation.
The mechanic is inspired by a land-based Blackjack practice in which a doubled card can be dealt face down, preserving uncertainty until the final outcome is revealed.
“Blackjack players already understand when and why they double,” ICONIC21 product owner team lead Andrii Savyntsev said. “Face Down Double Down doesn’t change the mathematics or the rules of the game. What it changes is the experience. By delaying the reveal, a Face Down Double turns the doubled hand into a moment of suspense that lasts until the dealer has finished."
The feature requires minimal additional explanation for Blackjack players, as the underlying betting mechanics and gameplay remain unchanged. Operators, meanwhile, can offer a differentiated Blackjack experience that introduces more anticipation without altering the core game.
Face Down Double Down is part of ICONIC21’s ongoing focus on evolving classic casino content through gameplay enhancements that balance familiarity with fresh player experiences.
The feature is available immediately in selected ICONIC21 Blackjack titles and can be integrated by operators through existing platform connections.
