Megan Elswyth, now a business journalist, first entered the industry over 10 years ago as a poker dealer. She quickly branched out from the card room and found herself hosting large-scale events in the casino, going all-in for charity events and even coming in on days off to learn how the slot machines worked. No one wants to admit they have favourites but, for this reason, casino operations will always be the closest to her heart.
After many years, Megan took a break from casinos to publish her first novel, but she was at an impasse. Both disciplines called to her and so with a boundless sense of curiosity and an intense knowledge of the industry, Megan made the transition to journalism to continue her passion – learning everything there is to know about gambling and documenting her discoveries along the way.
Megan will always find the time to deep dive and analyse potential AML/CFT failings in the industry with one hand, while championing CSR and responsible gambling with the other. The gambling industry will likely forever be stuck in a delicate dance between regulation, consequences and the potential for escalation, and Megan believes this is all the more reason to approach it with a balanced and unflinching sense of journalism.
