Legislative Document 2007 was originally proposed by Senator Craig Hickman in December 2025 and would ban online sweepstakes games or contests that utilize dual-currency payments.
HB 1052 was originally brought forth by Indiana Representative Ethan Manning in December 2025 and will now head back to the state’s House of Representatives for concurrence.
If approved by Governor Tate Reeves, the sweepstakes ban would go into effect on July 1, but must first pass through the House of Representatives prior to reaching the Governor’s desk.
The cease-and-desist orders were sent in coordination with the state’s Attorney General’s office, demanding operators ‘immediately block’ Illinois residents from accessing its platforms.
The Alliance testified in front of the Maryland House Ways and Means Committee on February 5, asking lawmakers to reconsider provisions which would criminalize social plus games.
House Bill 1052 was originally brought forth by Indiana Representative Ethan Manning and bans online sweepstakes games which leverage dual-currency or multi-currency systems of payment.
Despite receiving unanimous approval from the Public Policy Committee, lawmakers amended HB1052 to downgrade proposed criminal penalties for sweepstakes operations to civic penalties.
