The state’s House of Representatives advanced Senate Bill 2136/House Bill 1885 with a 69-17 vote, potentially banning sweepstakes casinos utilizing virtual-, dual- or multi-currency payments.
The Social Gaming Leadership Alliance has welcomed the outcome of Maryland's 2026 legislative session, saying social plus games will continue to operate in the state while it pushes for a formal regulatory framework in 2027.
The Internet Gaming and Consumer Protection Act was introduced by Councilmember Wendell Felder and aims to ban unlicensed gambling operators implementing a dual-currency payment system.

House Bill 1052 bans the operation of dual-currency and multi-currency online sweepstakes casinos which allow players to exchange real money for cash or an equivalent prize.
The collaboration aims to strengthen the investigative capabilities of both sides.
Legislative Document 2007 was originally proposed by Senator Craig Hickman in December 2025 and would ban online sweepstakes games or contests that utilize dual-currency payments.
