Meridianbet has secured a B+ online gaming licence in Belgium, allowing the operator to offer online casino products in the market from January 2026.
The licence, issued by the Belgian Gaming Commission, authorises Meridianbet to operate a full online casino platform covering slot games, table games and automated live casino products.
This represents a significant expansion of the operator's Belgian footprint, where it has maintained a licensed sports betting presence for more than seven years under a separate regulatory framework.
Belgium is regarded as one of Europe's most tightly regulated gambling jurisdictions, with strict player protection requirements, advertising limitations and licensing conditions enforced by the regulator.
The market is also highly concentrated, with ten operators accounting for around 94% of online wagering activity among 24 active licence holders.
According to figures published by the Belgian Gaming Commission, Belgium's online gambling market generated €944.6m (£824m) in gross gaming revenue during 2023, reflecting year-on-year growth of 18%.
Online casino accounted for €455m of that total, growing by 20.2% and representing the largest segment of the country's online gambling market.
Meridianbet said the B+ licence enables it to operate a dedicated online casino platform alongside its existing sports betting business, with each vertical subject to separate licensing and compliance obligations.
The operator plans to deploy its proprietary AI-driven recommendation technology, branded as an AI Casino Recommender, which analyses player behaviour and preferences to deliver personalised game suggestions in real time.
The Belgian approval forms part of Meridianbet's broader strategy to expand its regulated footprint across mature European markets, while continuing to scale its technology and product offering under the ownership of parent group Golden Matrix Group.
In December 2025, Meridianbet signed a content distribution agreement with fast betting supplier Beter, integrating esports and short-format sports tournaments across 18 licensed jurisdictions in Europe, Africa and South America.
Executives from Meridianbet and Golden Matrix Group have previously highlighted a strategy focused on controlled growth, profitability and selective investment in content and technology during a Global Gaming Insider Huddle discussion.
Meridianbet operates across multiple regulated markets in Europe, Africa and Latin America, with its sportsbook and casino businesses positioned as core consumer-facing assets within Golden Matrix Group's international portfolio
