Brightstar Lottery has beaten off the competition to procure a new contract with the California Lottery.

The agreement between Brightstar's subsidiary, Brightstar Global Solutions Corporation, means that the long-running partnership will continue for a further six years.

Scott Gunn, Brightstar's Chief Operating Officer for North America Lottery, commented: "We are excited to continue providing player-favorite games through our new contract and introduce new instant ticket offerings to Scratchers players in California, while simultaneously supporting the Lottery and its mission to generate supplemental funds for public education."

The operator and supplier have been partnered since 1986 when the Nevada-based lottery company was trading under the IGT brand.

The relationship is a close one and IGT's main contract as primary lottery provider was extended in 2023 and is expected to run up until October 2033.

This secondary contract allows California access to Brightstar's entire instant ticket content and innovations portfolio.

The terms also cover Brightstar's patented print and design technology, Infinity Instants, as well as marketing services, game development and analytical tools.

IGT's lottery arm began trading as Brightstar Lottery in July 2025 and the company currently holds primary tech provider contracts with 26 of the 46 lottery jurisdictions in the US.

This latest announcement comes hot on the heels of eye-catching developments in Brazil where Brightstar has been jointly awarded a 15-year lottery contract alongside Scientific Games.

The two companies have combined to form an entity in Brazil called SP Loterias SPE S.A (SPL) and will operate a brand-new lottery in São Paulo State.
