MGM Resorts International has begun powering 100% of its daytime electricity needs on the Las Vegas Strip with solar energy after receiving 115 MW of energy and 400 megawatt-hours (MWh) of battery storage from its Escape Solar and Storage Project in December 2025.
"With this new project coming online, we are accelerating progress toward our goal of using 100% renewable electricity domestically by 2030," MGM Resorts President and CEO Bill Hornbuckle said.
"Together with our Mega Solar Array, the new Escape Solar and Storage Project reflects our focus on scalable, impactful clean-energy solutions. It also demonstrates that our industry can operate more sustainably while delivering long-term cost stability, strengthening our business and supporting a more resilient energy future."
The operator formed a 25-year power purchase agreement with Escape Solar LLC in September 2024 to amplify MGM Resorts’ renewable energy capabilities and extend production to cover 100% of its daytime Las Vegas needs.
The battery system provided by Escape Solar also allows MGM Resorts to store solar energy and use it during evenings and other lower-production periods.
MGM Resorts stated it remains focused on expanding renewable energy use to help lower future costs and “mitigate exposure to energy price volatility.”
The operator’s renewable energy projects include initiatives at the MGM Grand, Mandalay Bay Convention Center and T-Mobile Arena, as well as its gaming establishment in Springfield, Massachusetts.
MGM Resorts is able to expand its access to renewable energy resources by combining the power generated from its newly activated Escape Solar and Storage Project and the operator’s 100-megawatt solar array.
MGM Resorts officially certified more than 2,000 employees as GameSense Advisors on December 16, consisting of frontline and executive MGM Resorts staff currently working in over 30 departments
