Lotería de Medellín has become the first lottery operator in Colombia to obtain certification under the NTC 6767:2024 technical standard, a national benchmark focused on security, quality and transparency in territorial lottery draws.
The certification was granted following an external audit carried out by Icontec, Colombia’s national standards and certification body, between October and early November 2025.
The assessment reviewed the full scope of the lottery’s pre-draw and draw processes, examining whether operational, technical and security controls met the requirements set out in the newly introduced standard.
NTC 6767:2024 establishes specific criteria for organizations involved in territorial games of chance, with a particular focus on strengthening transparency and trust in draw-based lottery operations.
According to Icontec, the audit confirmed that all evaluated processes at Lotería de Medellín complied with the required standards, resulting in the issuance of a formal process conformity certificate under Certification Scheme 6, in line with ISO/IEC 17067.
The certification applies specifically to the organization’s territorial lottery activities and remains valid until December 2028, subject to ongoing compliance and periodic verification by Icontec.
The standard covers areas such as procedural integrity, security controls and quality assurance throughout the draw lifecycle.
Commenting on the achievement, Lotería de Medellín General Manager Néstor Fernando Zuluaga Giraldo stated: “This certification represents recognition of the effort and dedication of our entire team and reaffirms the Medellín Lottery's commitment to transparency and the trust of our players. We will continue working responsibly and ethically, always guaranteeing legality and fair play in each of our draws.”
The achievement positions Lotería de Medellín as a reference point for other territorial lottery operators in Colombia, at a time when regulators and public institutions are placing increased emphasis on governance, accountability and technical standards.
The certification follows recent regulatory developments in Colombia's gaming sector, including the collection of COP 13tn ($3.3bn) in VAT revenues from online operators in 2025 and ongoing industry debate surrounding emergency tax measures.
NTC 6767:2024 is a recently introduced Colombian technical standard designed specifically for territorial games of chance, aligning local lottery operations with internationally recognised certification frameworks
