A group of 66 employees at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Biloxi, currently owned and operated by Bally’s Corporation, have voted to join Teamsters Local 891 in the hopes of securing higher wages, better benefits and improved job security.

The group includes bankers, front desk workers and cashiers, having joined more than 6,000 casino workers in the US who are currently represented by respective Teamsters unions.

"We joined the Teamsters to have a real voice on the job and fight for what we deserve," Front Desk worker and Teamsters Local 891 member Daphnia Lions said.

"We work hard, and it's about time we get the respect and pay that comes with it."

The International Brotherhood of Teamsters was originally founded in 1903 and represents 1.3 million workers in the US, Canada and Puerto Rico.

Teamsters Local 891 President Jimmy Pinkard also spoke on the recent vote, having said, "We are proud to welcome these hardworking new members to our union.

“This organizing victory is a big step forward, and we are ready to help these workers secure a first contract.”

"This is another decisive organizing win for our union that builds on our undeniable record of success in the casino industry," Director of Teamsters Convention, Trade Show and Casino Division Tommy Blitsch said.

"The Teamsters are growing in Mississippi because we are taking action and getting results for workers. We are just getting started."

On January 5, over 250 workers at Gold Strike Casino Resort in Mississippi voted through a card-check majority to join Teamsters Local 667, consisting of housekeepers, food & beverage staff and cocktail waitresses.
