Brazil’s Ministry of Women and Caixa have launched a nationwide awareness initiative during Carnival 2026 by printing anti-harassment messaging on lottery tickets issued across the country.
Lottery slips now carry the message: “Carnival is a celebration. Harassment is a crime. Report it. Call 180. In emergencies, call 190.”
The wording will remain in circulation until the end of February, reinforcing the Federal Government’s Carnival campaign aimed at combating violence against women.
Caixa President Carlos Antônio Vieira highlighted the bank’s institutional role in the initiative.
“Caixa, as a public bank essential to the country’s social development, supports the actions of the Ministry of Women and reaffirms its non-negotiable commitment to combating sexual harassment and femicide,” he said.
The partnership will be renewed in March to coincide with Women’s Month, when a new awareness campaign will be introduced.
Additional Carnival actions include the “Pay attention or I’ll call 180” campaign, conducted in coordination with state and municipal authorities, as well as the Federal Highway Police and transportation concessionaires to expand messaging on major roads.
The 180 is a Brazilian hotline that operates 24/7 and provides free, confidential support. Authorities advise calling 190 in cases of immediate danger.
“We are talking about a network that reaches all Brazilian municipalities. When a message like this circulates on lottery tickets, it helps save lives because it informs, guides, and makes it clear that violence against women will not be tolerated,” added the Minister of Women, Márcia Lopes.
