The Hong Kong Jockey Club was the exclusive sponsor of this year’s "Prosperity Gallops Across Hong Kong" Year of the Horse fireworks display.

The display lasted for 23 minutes and used a total of 31,888 pyrotechnic shells, with horse-themed and auspicious symbols lighting up the sky, as well as the occasional “HKJC” and “WIN” designs.

Naturally, the connections between the Jockey Club and the Year of the Horse are clear, and the fireworks mark the beginning of a year-long celebration from the club acknowledging the role of horses and horseracing in the community.

Hon Martin Liao, The Hong Kong Jockey Club Chairman, said: "The Hong Kong Jockey Club's sole purpose is to act continuously for the betterment of our society. Besides providing world-class horseracing and horse sports entertainment, we are entrusted by the Hong Kong SAR Government with channelling gambling demand to combat the illegal market.

“Through this integrated business model, we are able to generate significant economic value and employment, with our surplus going back to the community through charity donations. We have grown to become one of the largest charity benefactors globally, with our sole focus on Hong Kong.

“Yet none of this would be possible without the horse."

Elsewhere in Conghua, Guangzhou, the Hong Kong Jockey Club sponsored a 1,200-drone show that was integrated into another fireworks show.

The drones were arranged to show horseracing imagery, such as jockeys riding the horses and horseshoes.

In its recent financial reports, the Hong Kong Jockey Club revealed that the World Pool turnover on non-Hong Kong races reached HK$9.3bn (US$1.19bn) in 2025.
