According to the Slovak Gambling Regulatory Authority (SGRA), the nation’s gambling market recorded growth in 2025, with GGR reaching €1.55bn ($1.83bn), up 7.2% year-on-year.
Total industry turnover was €26.77bn and contributions to the state budget rose to €369.9m, up 6.5% from 2024. Online gambling continued to drive growth, generating about €890m GGR from sports betting and online casino games.
The online casino sector alone produced €568.6m in GGR, up roughly 19.5% year-on-year. Its share of total gambling revenue increased to 36.6%, up from 32.8% in 2022 and 21.6% in 2021 during the pandemic.
Land-based gambling declined, primarily due to a 15.6% year-on-year drop in slot hall GGR to €286.6m. In contrast, land-based casinos saw GGR increase by 28.7% year-on-year to €182.67m. Number lotteries remained popular, with steady growth in bets, winnings, and revenue, contributing €51.29m to the state, a 7.6% rise year-on-year.
Commenting on the figures, Libuša Baranová, Director General of the Gambling Regulatory Authority, stated: "We expect online gambling to keep growing. It’s a natural result of advances in technology, widespread access to smartphones, and the near-constant availability of the internet.
"We are growing up with Generation Z, our digital youth, who consider social networks and the online world to be their natural environment. That is why one of the key priorities of our authority is to educate the younger generation about the risks associated with gambling''
Looking ahead, the Gambling Regulatory Authority stated it will focus on modernising regulatory tools to protect players, prevent illegal activity, and support the stable development of Slovakia’s licensed gambling market.
