The Star Entertainment has announced the appointment of John Koster as the next CEO of The Star Sydney, subject to regulatory approvals. The announcement was made via the company’s official social media channel.

Koster is a veteran of the global casino and hospitality sector with more than four decades of experience. He has held senior leadership roles across the United States and internationally at brands such as Caesars Entertainment, Eldorado Resorts and Harrah’s.

Previously, he served as Regional President for Caesars East, overseeing three major Atlantic City properties. His background includes hotel openings, large-scale operations management and senior executive positions across five countries.

The appointment comes amid broader restructuring within the group following significant financial pressures and the entry of new controlling shareholders

How does the Bally’s recapitalisation reshape the leadership transition?

The leadership change follows a period of upheaval. In late 2025, The Star initiated a reduction of up to 40 senior roles as part of a cost-cutting programme aligned with a wider restructure ahead of Bally’s Corporation and Bruce Mathieson’s Investment Holdings gaining a combined 61% stake in the company through recapitalisation.

The Star Sydney’s previous CEO, Janelle Campbell, also confirmed her resignation during this period, though she agreed to remain in the role until a successor was appointed.

The group has stated that Koster’s appointment marks an important step in strengthening operations and improving guest experience as the Sydney property works to restore performance following a series of regulatory challenges and licence suitability reviews.

The Star said it looks forward to Koster’s leadership as the organisation continues to reshape its executive structure and execute its recovery strategy.
