The Betting and Gaming Council (BGC) has released an interactive quiz to help educate the public about the realities of the illegal gambling market.
The ‘Spot The Black Market’ game takes players through different scenarios and statistics and asks them to choose from a list of multiple-choice answers.
The topics include differentiating between black market and regulated casinos, explaining which player protection features are missing from illegal sites and how much is lost each year in revenue through these sites.
After each question, the quiz shows players additional information regarding the topic.
For example, after revealing to the player how much these sites earn, the quiz explains that: “A report published by leading consultants Frontier Economics, and commissioned by the Betting and Gaming Council, estimated up to £67 million lost excise duty per year to the black market, equivalent to 1,750 nurses’ salaries for one year or 1.2 million extra GP consultations.”
This release is part of a wider goal to raise public awareness around black market casino websites and highlight how important it is to only play at sites that are regulated and offer robust player protection measures.
This initiative was first announced at the 2026 BGC Annual Council AGM, which featured live coverage by Will Underwood and Tim Poole.
The quiz also encourages players to check potential sites against the Gambling Commission register before depositing any money.
A BGC spokesperson said: “This campaign is about exposing the hidden dangers of the black market. These unregulated sites deliberately mimic trusted brands but play by none of the rules that keep people safe.
“Our new Spot The Black Market game shows just how easily consumers can be deceived, and reinforces the importance of choosing licensed, protected operators.”
