Whimpey named COO and Interim CEO of The Star Brisbane pending regulatory approval
Brings more than 25 years’ experience across gaming, hospitality and tourism sectors
Has held senior roles at KPMG, Tabcorp, Coles Group and Surf Life Saving Queensland

The Star Entertainment Group has appointed Dave Whimpey as COO and Interim CEO of The Star Brisbane, subject to regulatory approvals.

Whimpey joins the Brisbane property with more than 25 years of experience across gaming, hospitality and tourism.

He began his career at Jupiter’s Casino before moving into senior leadership roles with KPMG, Tabcorp and Coles Group. His most recent role was CEO of Surf Life Saving Queensland, having previously served as CEO of Brisbane Racing Club.

The operator said the appointment comes at a transitional period for the business as it works to rebuild operations and strengthen performance at its Queensland property.

The Star said Whimpey’s experience across both commercial and community-focused organisations would support the Brisbane team as it continues operations at the Queen’s Wharf precinct, which it said receives more than 1.4 million visitors annually.

Whimpey, said: “I’m excited to be joining The Star at such a pivotal time as the business embarks on a new era focused on rebuilding, revitalisation and restoring confidence.”

He added: “There is a significant opportunity ahead and I’m committed to working closely with the refreshed Board, management and our professional Team Members to contribute positively to the city’s future and the communities we are part of.”

The appointment forms part of a broader series of executive changes across The Star Entertainment Group as it continues its restructuring efforts and operational review following financial pressures and regulatory scrutiny in recent years.

Earlier this month, The Star announced the appointment of John Koster as incoming CEO of The Star Sydney, pending regulatory approval, as part of ongoing leadership restructuring across the group following ownership changes and operational challenges.

The Star said Whimpey has longstanding ties to Queensland through previous leadership roles in the state
